The Marauder Historical Society

The Society was formed at the USAF Museum, Dayton, Ohio, on the 23rd. of September, 1988, following the dedication of a memorial to the Martin B-26 Marauder, of all who built, supported, maintained and flew it, and was intended as an umbrella organisation for all Marauder Men and Women. It became International in scope by 1991, when more than 1500 Marauder veterans and their families celebrated the 50th. Anniversary of the rollout of the first B-26 with a Gala in Baltimore, the Marauder's "hometown". A "Return to England" celebration in 1992, followed by the election of a British Marauder Man, Peter Hatcher of 39 Squadron, as the Society's 3rd. President, succeeding George Parker, of the 397th.Bomb Group, the Founding 1st. President,, and Frank Brewer, of the 323rd. Bomb Group, the 2nd. President.

In 1999, under Robert Harwell, the 4th. President, the Marauder Men '99 celebration was organised, and duly took place in Washington,DC under the 5th. President, William Morton, who like the 4th. President was from the 344th. Bomb Group. Earlier, in 1995, a V-SO Celebration took place at the University of Akron, the site of the International Marauder Archive, but by 1998, a decision had been made to move the Archive to the Air and Space Musuem at Pima, Arizona.At it's peak, the Society had more tan 4000 members worldwide, but current membership is less than 3000, although the central address list does hold many thousands of names and addresses.

The current President is Maj.Gen. John 0. Moench,USAF(Ret), who is also one of the two main Marauder historians, with Trevor Allen in England being the other. The Society's Newsletter, The Marauder Thunder, is edited by Richard Ellinger, and is issued up to six times a year, with worldwide distribution. The International Marauder Endowment (TIME) was instituted to support the International Archive. Note. John Moench is from the 323rd, Bomb Group, and Richard Ellinger is from the 397th. Bomb Group.
